24 March 2020

Due to the current lockdown, we have collated some top tips and practices for maintaining your hair system whilst at home.

Please see below our instructions for maintaining your hair system for various scenarios.

We’ve also supplied some helpful YouTube videos to help you here:

  • Stick Down With Tape

    Hair System Lifting

If you experience some lifting, don’t panic! Follow these simple instructions to keep you looking your best until your next service.

    You’ll need the following products:

    Adhesive Products Needed:

Hair System Tape (1) The brand we use is called ‘Superior Tape’, if you can’t find this, head over to eBay or Amazon and search for hair system tape. The best brand is Walker Tape.

You MUST patch test yourself before using any adhesives. To do this, cut a small piece of tape and peel one side of the backing off. Place this on the inside of your arm. Leave there for 24 hours if possible. If you have no reaction, you can continue use.

    Removal Products Needed: (2)

Lace Release or Amber Citrus Spray. Alternatives: C22 hair system remover, baby oil

    Cleaning Products Needed: (3)

    • Cotton wool
    • Surgical spirit or Isopropyl Alcohol
    • Fine toothed plastic comb

Step-by-step to sticking down your Hair System with Tape

    • If an area has lifted, pull it back so you can see what you’re doing.
    • If the loose area is still partially attached, spray your Lace Release (2) onto dry cotton wool and dab around the loose area until it lifts away from the scalp.
    • Spray surgical spirit (3) on to dry cotton wool to clean the system and on your scalp to make sure there is no sticky residue.
    • Once the scalp and unit is clean and dry, cut the strips of tape in half. Peel off one side of the tape (1), and stick it to the inside of the system as close to the edge as you can. Peel off the other side so it is ready to stick to your scalp.
    • You can put tape on the lace (mesh), but if you do, make sure you use a comb to press down very hard on the system and make sure the bond is as tight as possible. DO NOT use your fingers.
    • Style as desired.

Please DON’T wash your hair or 4 hours after doing this to make sure that you avoid any activity which makes you sweat, to ensure the bond stays tight.

  • Refusion With Tape

    Hair System Refusion

This is a guide for how to perform a refusion (take off, clean up, and put back on) of your hair system with hair system tape.

    You’ll need the following products:

    Adhesive Products Needed:

    Adhesive Products Needed: (1a)

Hair System Tape, one for perimiter (clear tape (white roll)), the brand we use is called ‘Superior Tape’, if you can’t find this, head over to eBay or Amazon and search for Hair System Tape. A good brand is Walker Tape.

Hair System Tape, one for the lace (if you have one). (1b) We call these tapes ‘blue tape’. These could be in either rolls or boomerangs. We use ‘Lace Tape’, ‘Flexabond Hole Tape’, ‘Supertape’, and ‘No Shine Tape’. If you can’t find this, head over to eBay or Amazon and use your best judgement.

    Removal Products Needed: (2)

Lace Release or Amber Citrus Spray. Alternatives: C22 hair system remover, baby oil

    Cleaning Products Needed: (3)

    • Surgical spirit
    • Isopropyl Alcohol
    • Fine tooth comb
    • Cotton wool
    • Shampoo of your choice

You MUST patch test yourself before using any adhesives. To do this, cut a small piece of tape and peel one side of the backing off. Place this on the inside of your arm. Leave there for 24 hours if possible. If you do not react, you can continue to use it.

    Step-by-step to Hair System refusion

    • Before taking the system off, apply lace release (2) on top of the lace and into the hair to break down the tape. Once the tape has absorbed the lace release, you can lift it up slightly and gently.
    • Then, apply gentle pressure to the system and peel off from back to front, spraying surgical spirit (2) onto the scalp and the system as you go to loosen the bond. Once the system has been taken off, you can place it to one side.
    • Using a comb and cotton wool (3), clean the scalp completely, making sure there is no sticky residue on the scalp. Use cotton wool and surgical spirit to clean the base of the system, again making sure there is no sticky residue left. You must make sure no part of the system is tacky to the touch. If there is residue left on any part of the system, it may mean that your bond will not last as long.
    • Wash your scalp as normal, making sure you completely clean off the shampoo and any sticky residue. Wash the system gently by brushing shampoo through the hair in one direction from front to back. If you use conditioner, make sure you DO NOT apply this to the knots of the system, as it will loosen the knots and the hair may fall faster. Make sure you only apply conditioner to mid-lengths and ends only. Gently brush through the shampoo and conditioner to avoid knotting. Then, rinse thoroughly, making sure there is no residue of any kind left on your system.
    • Using the white roll tape (1a), cut small sections off and apply them all around the edges of the system, except for the front lace part. Cut a bigger section, and apply it to the middle of the system.
    • You can then cut up small pieces of your blue or holey tape (1b) and dot them on top of the white roll.
    • Use the blue or holey tape on the lace area on its own.
    • Apply the system to the scalp from front to back, lining up the front hairline and gently rolling it back to fit as normal. Before pressing down on the bond, if something doesn’t feel right, you can take the system off gently, and reapply until it feels right. You can then press the tape to your scalp. Do not rub the hair, put a firm amount of pressure all over the system to secure the bond.
