How to Cope With Thinning Hair & Hair Loss

14 March 2017

The average scalp contains over 100,000 hair follicles, and normal hair loss is considered to be 100 follicles a day. From stress to genetics, medication, illness and hormones, there are numerous aspects of daily life that contributes to hair loss and hair thinning. 40% of British men notice considerable hair loss by the time they are 35, and 12% of women in the UK experience hair loss and thinning.

Hair loss in both men and women can cause a severe loss of confidence and is often traumatic – especially when it comes to finding a solution that works for you. Here are three ways to cope with hair thinning.

1️⃣ Find support in friends and family

Hair loss is a common when it comes to ageing, and is also an expected side effect of cancer related medical treatments. Alongside this, hair loss can also be hereditary. If you are struggling to come to terms with thinning of hair then speak to a family member or close friend about the way you are feeling. Or speak to hair loss specialist who understands what you are going through. Often, those experiencing hair loss often feel alone, and worry that their partner may not be as attracted to them; this should not be the case, as there is much more to attraction than looks.

If you have children and are concerned that your hair loss may upset or confuse them, then sit down and explain why it is happening. If your hair thinning is related to an illness, then comfort them and reassure them that it is perfectly common and normal.

2️⃣ Research hair thinning treatments

Before you try any treatments it is important to find out the cause of your problem and then combat it from there. With so many treatments out there, finding out the best one for you can be daunting. From hair systems for men and women to Scalp Micropigmentation and laser therapy there are a plethora of treatments to choose from. But do your research first, and avoid the cheap option that seems too good to be true, as it may make the problem worse.

3️⃣ Adopt a flattering hairstyle
